ONE DAY WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

1. Introduction to Yogilates (3 hours)
Anyone can learn Yogilates, a revolutionary system of exercise that integrates the core strength and alignment principles of Pilates with the practice and philosophy of hatha yoga. Yogilates creator Jonathan Urla leads us in this mindful practice as we learn;
- Simple meditative practice skills,
- How to breath efficiently for movement and focus,
- Integrated Pilates and yoga exercises on the floor that thoroughly warm up and prepare you mentally and physically for progressive movements and skills,
- A vinyasa flow sequence that incorporates simple yet elegant moves evolved from dance, Pilates and yoga for greater effectiveness,
- Therapuetic and restorative poses for complete rejuvenation and calmed mind.

2. Pilates Principles for Peak Performance (3 hours)
This special workshop is open to all Pilates enthusiasts, as well as those interested in how Pilates principles can be applied to any activity for improved focus, effectiveness, and better overall performance. Master Pilates instructor Jonathan Urla, presents Pilates from its roots as a kinesthetic awareness system that teaches you sound bio-mechnical and alignment principles that you can embody through mental and physical discipline. Coordinating flowing movement with the breath, the Pilates regimen is highly effective at developing core strength, dynamic stability, flexibility, balance, and reduced tension. Instructors and students will enjoy breaking down the classical matwork exercises for different levels, as we re-program our bodies for more efficient and more powerful movement.

2. Advanced Classical Pilates Matwork (3 hours)
Designed for experienced Pilates instructors and students, this workshop focuses on taking you to the next level in your practice. In 3 hours of practical work, you will learn;
- the full repertory of advanced classical Pilates exercises broken down in terms of technique and purpose, as well as intermediate modifications,
- special sensory cues that promote greater precision and control
- classic sequencing and transitions that provide seamless flow and balance
Students will receive handouts of the full Advanced Classical Pilates Matwork routines detailing order, reps and transitions. You will also learn how to utilize accessible equipment, such as yoga blocks and therabands for versatility and greater effectiveness.

PILATES TEACHER TRAINING
Enhance your career - learn to teach classic Pilates Matwork!

I. PILATES AS A YOGA PRACTICE - MATWORK INTENSIVE (23 hours)
This course covers the history, philosophy, and guiding principles of Pilates technique as a means toward achieving better fitness and health. Presenting the how and why (not just what) of classic Pilates matwork exercises, Joseph's philosophy and context for creating his system will be analyzed. Routines derive logically from the traditional sequencing so as to maintain the original flow and purpose of true Pilates matwork. Designed for those with prior experience teaching fitness or movement, it is strongly urged that participants also have at least 6 months of experience doing Pilates. Skeletal and muscular considerations for informed teaching will be covered, and instructors will learn how to perform a basic alignment evaluation of their student's posture. Focus will be on learning how to prepare the mind as well as the body for classic Pilates matwork.
Over four days, material covered includes:
- The six guiding principles of Pilates technique
- 15 different functional awareness, or "pre-pilates" exercises, including proper breathing technique and stabilization exercises
- Practical teaching experience utilizing the Pilates principles as guide
- over 50 authentic Pilates exercises and four full routines broken down by individual exercise and purpose
- Specific verbal cueing, teaching directives and observation skills
- Detailed class formats for different levels of complete hour-long matwork routines with original sequencing for maximum efficiency and flow.
- Protocols and safety concerns for different populations
- How to incorporate accessible equipment, i.e. light dumbells, small balls, foam blocks and Therabands into a mat class.

Through lecture and practical experience, students will learn how to teach the full progression from Beginner to Advanced Intermediate Pilates Matwork exercises. Emphasis will be on developing clear instructional cueing and mastery of the art of this highly specific technique. Instructors who pass this course are fully prepared and certified to start teaching the most popular and effective group and private Pilates training in the world!

The fee for this course includes the Pilates Matwork Teachers Manual, a $100 value. This comprehensive teacher's manual contains the history, principles, relevant anatomical references, functional awareness exercises, teaching directives, modifications and protocols, and fully illustrated exercise guides. Along with the NewYorkStyle Pilates videos, serious instructors have everything they need to successfully and safely teach Pilates matwork. NOTE: A practical evaluation and a 50 question written exam will be given at the end of the course.

This course is good for 23 hours of CEC credit.
Instructors who pass this course receive a Certificate of Advanced Qualification in Pilates Matwork. Certificate of Basic Qualification is granted for those with minimal experience and score below standard.

YOGILATES EXTENDED WEEKEND WORKSHOPS
AND TEACHER TRAINING

1. INTRODUCTION TO YOGILATES PHILOSOPHY AND TECHNIQUE (15 to 20 hours)
This course introduces the participant to the mental, physical, and spiritual underpinnings of both hatha yoga and Pilates as interpreted by Yogilates founder Jonathan Urla. Approaching physical and mental discipline as integral to personal growth, students are encouraged to explore the ideas of moderation, intuition, balance, committment, study, and the potential for a higher spiritual state that is inherent in all of us. Practicing meditation and conscious choices in everyday life, one can meet in the middle of nothing where every moment is an opportunity to start anew. Yogilates as a discipline calls for intense focus while also letting go of artificial goals and attachments. Students will also learn the foundation of the Yogilates system of training the body, focusing on exercises and sequences that enhance the structural integrity of the body and create greater awareness of ideal alignment. Stating with the breath, the core, and the spine, students will learn how to check for imbalances, establish flexibility parameters, and ease tension for more efficient training. This course includes daily classes as well as discussion and handouts.

Fee: $300 - 450 includes handouts.

To become a certified Yogilates Instructor one must already be a certified in Pilates and/or yoga and have taken Pilates as a Yoga Practice and Intro to Yogilates course (see above), along with the following course.

2. TEACHING FROM THE SOURCE - YOGILATES TEACHER TRAINING (23 hours)

This is the last module for instructors seeking become a certified Yogilates instructor. Focusing on teaching methodology, specific sequencing and technique, this course will give instructors the full format, alignment principles and progressive teaching directives that distinguish Yogilates as a unique system. Integrative training is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding ways of working with students and helps open the teacher to new possibilities of how to make the benefits of both yoga and Pilates more accessible to everyone. Instructors will also be directed to consider their "intention" as teachers, and to recognize their own holistic lifestyle and awareness. Detail study will cover the following:
- Breathing efficiently and effectively for support and enhanced awareness.
- Specific alignment parameters and instructional cueing for all Yogilates exercises
- Modifications and protocols for common conditions and restrictions, and basic use of props
- Sequencing and class design that enhances
effectiveness, safety, and enjoyment of students training in the Yogilates style
- How to observe and guide with both word and gentle touch.
This course will train instructors how to adapt a Vinyasa style (moving with the breath) to floor and standing routines that integrate Pilates matwork, hatha yoga, and some dance based exercises so as to maximize flow and fun. Generous time is allowed for practical teaching experience and questions. Course concludes with a written exam for instructors who wish a Specialty Certificate to teach this trademarked class.

Instructors receive a 75-page Yogilates Teachers Manual covering practical philosophy, teaching directives, general format design, sample classes, illustrated exercise sheets, protocols, and resource guide.

PRE-REQUISITES: Pilates as a Yoga Practice and Introduction to Yogilates courses; Six months experience teaching Pilates or yoga, with prior practice in both.
